Sherlock Holmes Review (2009)

Think of the name Sherlock Holmes and you are taken back into the coats and dagger world of the English Empire. Why, if you be a little bit creative you can even smell the smoke and fog at the end of the bridge. With this in mind, when I heard that a movie about Sherlock Holmes is being made, I gave myself up to another movie that would basically stay true to whatever we have read about Sherlock Holmes and his trusted sidekick/partner Dr. Watson. Oh! Was I surprised.

Cast:

* Robert Downey, Jr. as Sherlock Holmes.
* Jude Law as Dr. John Watson
* Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler
* Mark Strong as Lord Henry Blackwood,
* Kelly Reilly as Mary Morstan.
* Eddie Marsan as Inspector Lestrade.]
* Hans Matheson as Lord Coward, the Home Secretary.
* Geraldine James as Mrs. Hudson, Sherlock Holmes' landlady.
* James Fox as Sir Thomas Rotherham,
* Robert Maillet as Dredger, a French henchman working for Blackwood.

Plot:

It is the late eighteenth century, and the world is at the cusp of throwing away the yoke of old and bringing in the fresh, charming little world of technique and advancement. Science has become magic and magic has become science, and knowledge is truly power.

It is in such a scenario that Sherlock Holmes is instrumental in stopping a ritual murder of a society woman. Three months later, when the killer is about to be hanged for the murder, he informs Sherlock Holmes that three more deaths will take place and this will change the nature of the world itself.

What follows is a adrenaline rushed adventure which is portrayed in the rightful manner through Guy Ritchie's direction.

Review:

Guy Ritchie has a winner on his hands. His direction of the entire action adventure is quite unique, and he has able support from the star as well as the supporting cast. Robert Downey Junior is soon becoming more and more famous, and seems to be just ramping up for the epic Iron Man 2 that is supposed to release sometime this year.

What is unique about this movie is that it brings the old timer's 'How did they do it' and collaborates it with a adrenalin packed, high voltage actioner, all in one movie!

The movie has one of the more intelligent scripts that I have come across, either in Hollywood or Bollywood, and I look forward to the promised sequels!
